The Mojave Max Program provides educational assemblies in Fall and Winter of each year. The assemblies include appearances by a Ranger who discusses desert tortoise biology and conservation, an educator who discusses Mojave Desert weather which plays an important part in Mojave Max’s emergence, and the Mojave Max mascot. Clark County teachers for grades K-6, if you would like to request a Mojave Max Assembly and have the Mojave Max team visit your school to talk more about desert tortoises, the Mojave Desert and the Mojave Max Emergence Contest, please fill out an assembly application today!

Today A’myah Cunningham and her classmates from Roger Gehring Elementary School celebrated her win of the 2017 Mojave Max Emergence Contest with a field trip and pizza party to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to visit the live Mojave Max tortoise. Congratulations to A’myah!

Second-grade student A’myah Cunningham of Roger Gehring Elementary School is the winner of the 2017 Mojave Max Emergence Contest!  A’myah will be recognized as the winner on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 8:00 am at Gehring Elementary School located at 1155 E. Richmar Avenue. A’myah and her classmates will enjoy a visit by the Mojave Max team and the Mojave Max mascot where she and her classmates will receive their Mojave Max t-shirts, their Mojave Max Olympic-style medals and a ‘traveling’ trophy which will be displayed at their school for a year.

More than 6,400 students entered the 17th annual Mojave Max Emergence Contest, which ended on April 5, 2017 at 12:40 pm with Max’s emergence.  A’myah guessed the exact date, hour and minute that Max would emerge!

The winner and her entire class will be rewarded with a field trip and pizza party at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on May 9th.  At that time, the winner will receive the rest of her prizes including a digital camera, an “America the Beautiful” year-long pass to all National Parks and Federal Recreation areas and a laptop computer. The winner’s teacher will also receive a laptop computer.

The Mojave Max Education Program is provided by a partnership among Clark County, Southern Nevada Conservancy, the Clark County School District, the Bureau of Land Management, and Friends of Red Rock Canyon.

I’m excited to let you know that you can now view me LIVE in my habitat at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation area. We’ve installed a live video streaming camera so you can check on me whenever you’d like!

Remember, I spend a lot of time in my burrow, so you may not see me right away, but check back frequently. You’ll be able to see the volunteers at Friends of Red Rock Canyon feed me, and the other tortoises at the tortoise habitat at Red Rock Canyon.
