Assembly Presentations

The Mojave Max Program provides educational assemblies in January and February of each year.  The assemblies include appearances by a meteorologist who discusses Mojave Desert weather, an educator who discusses desert tortoise biology and conservation, and the costumed Mojave Max character.  Availability for assemblies is limited, and applications are accepted each November.

Mojave Max can visit your school!

Mojave Max Emergence Contest

Beginning each year on November 1st, Clark County students can go online at www.mojavemax.com to enter their guess as to when the real Mojave Max will emerge from his burrow at Red Rock Canyon.  The student who gets closest to Max’s actual emergence time will win an “Outdoor Adventure Pack” with digital camera, an annual pass to all federal recreational lands, and a class pizza party at Red Rock Canyon.  The teacher of the winning student will receive a laptop computer.

Classroom Presentations

Third grade teachers:  A Mojave Max educator will visit your classroom to teach a 45-minute lesson about the desert tortoise and its habitat, the Mojave Desert.  The lesson includes information about Mojave Desert weather, desert tortoise biology, and the importance of desert conservation.  The presentation is fun, interactive, and curriculum-based.

Mojave Max Teacher Workshop

Teacher Workshops

Would you like to teach the Mojave Max lessons at your own school?  Participate in the Mojave Max PDE course to learn about Mojave Desert weather and ecology, desert tortoise biology, and desert conservation.  Participants will also learn fun ways to share information about our desert and its wildlife with their students.  Teachers who complete the course will have the opportunity to check out a Mojave Max teaching kit, which contains books, posters, teaching props, and actual tortoise shells.
